Moving Up

Hispanic executives and leaders Rosy Aburto-McDonough, Angeles Ortega, and Maria Gonzalez take on new challenges in their professional careers. Aburto-McDonough is the new Executive Director of the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado (HCC) and its affiliated education organization, HCC Contractor Academy. This executive, born in Mexico City, oversees daily operations for both organizations and leads the HCC business association focused on the Colorado construction industry.

In her role prior to joining HCC, Aburto McDonough served as the Director of the Minority Business Office of Colorado at the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) under Governor Jared Polis. At OEDIT she developed the statewide vision focused on supporting small minority-women and veteran-owned businesses. In her new position, Ortega, born in Queretaro, Mexico, must also create pathways to employment and income growth through career and business development for minorities.

Ortega, as the new CEO of Mi Casa Resource Center, is responsible for providing strategic direction, overall leadership, and management to support Mi Casa Resource Center’s mission-based work. She also will oversee the financial management program and administrative operations, as well as fund development efforts for the organization which employs 31 full-time and two part-time employees. Ortega comes to Mi Casa Resource Center from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where she served as Director of Advancement.

Vaccination Campaign

Meanwhile, Gonzalez has been appointed by Colorado’s governor for the Minority Business Advisory Council (MBAC) for a second four-year term. With a devoted commitment to make a long-lasting impact in her fight for racial equity and inclusion, Gonzalez has extensive experience in the business, government, and non-profit sectors. For over 25 years Gonzalez has served on multiple non-profit boards and collaborative coalitions focused on community empowerment, economic development, and social change.

Gonzalez owned and operated Gonzalez Insurance for 13 years, a Colorado insurance brokerage focused on personal and commercial coverages.  This executive from Jalisco, Mexico, is the Founder and CEO at Adelante Community Development (ACD) based in Commerce City, Colorado. Under her leadership, ACD has built alliances with multiples cities and counties in the Denver Metro area. Currently, Gonzalez and ACD organize large campaigns of vaccinations against Covid-19 aimed at the Hispanic population.
